How to extract audio from a video
- Drop the video. Any MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or MPEG-TS file with an audio track. Audio files work too if you just want to change format.
- Pick a format and quality. MP3 plays anywhere. M4A is best for Apple devices. WAV is lossless but large. OGG Opus is the smallest.
- Extract and save. The video track is dropped and the audio is encoded at the bitrate you chose.

Questions people ask
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is transparent for speech and most music. Use 128 kbps for podcasts or voice memos where size matters, and 320 kbps if the source is high quality music and you want to keep everything.
MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG?
MP3 works on every device ever made. M4A (AAC) sounds slightly better at the same size and is native on iPhone and Mac. WAV is uncompressed, great for editing but ten times larger. OGG uses the Opus codec, the most efficient of all, but older players may not open it.
Will the audio quality improve?
No tool can add detail that the video did not contain. Choose a bitrate at or above the original and the result will sound identical to the video.
Can I extract only part of the audio?
Yes. Trim the video first with the trim tool, then extract the audio from the trimmed file. Both steps happen on your device and take seconds.
What if the video has no sound?
The tool checks for an audio track when the file is loaded and tells you right away if there is nothing to extract.
